What is Yoga?
The main focus of Yoga is to find harmony between body and mind. Yoga is an Indian spiritual path aimed at achieving the union with the Higher Consciousness. A practitioner of Yoga is called a Yogi (male) or Yogini (female). Outside India, Yoga is mostly associated with the practice of asanas (postures) of Hatha Yoga or as a form of exercise. All Yoga is derived for Hatha Yoga. The Sanskrit term Yoga has many meanings. It is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, “to yoke”, or “to unite”. At Yogacara we strive to ensure an authentic Yoga practice, and not simply what is trendy. Yoga has taken on a life of its own in the western world; much of it based on a “fitness” mentality. Authentic Yoga focuses on balancing all aspects of mind & body, and does not simply focus on the ego and physical appearance. Yoga is considered to be the most ancient physical discipline; it is a metaphor for balance in every area of life.
